No DAY But TODAY!

I was in New York last Friday. Why was I in New York, you ask? Well, my friend Amanda will be turning 30 and hasn't been to New York in 2 years (since she had her son). She wanted to celebrate by going to New York and catching "The Little Mermaid." We caught the NJ Transit Train in Hamilton, NJ and headed up to Manhattan. I forgot how crowded NY is. So many people!! Still, it is what I like to dub - "My Happy Place!" Times Square and Broadway are always buzzing with people and almost each one of them has had some sort of theatrical experience that they will always remember. It's filled with chaos and craziness, yet I somehow fell at peace when I am there. Figure that one out!

"The Little Mermaid" blew me away!! We even had understudies for some of the main roles and it still was AMAZING. The set was huge and had state of the art hydraulics that cast members were riding as part of several of the scenes. TOO COOL! The little boy who played Flounder was out of this world. Never in my life have I ever heard a boy sing so high (not in falsetto) and have such a clear sound to his voice. All in all it was a great trip and I am looking forward to another NYC excursion soon.

On our way to the theatre we walked by the Nederlander Theatre. I was shocked to see that "Rent" will be closing on September 7th. How could they? WTF? I saw the original cast on Broadway and I was blown away. The show is so intense and the music and cast were phenomenal. I am so sad that we must say goodbye to this fabulous show. I know all good things must come to an end, but some bad things lasted A LOT longer than "Rent." (ahem....CATS!) Sigh.

From Rent Finale B:

I can't control
My destiny
I trust my soul
My only goal is just to be
There's only now
There's only here
Give in to love
Or live in fear
No other path
No other way
No day but today...

Goodbye RENT - we will miss you!
